During my practicum at Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip, I immersed myself in challenging yet rewarding surgical procedures and had the opportunity to interact with patients. Scrubbing in on surgeries exposed me to the intricacies of medical interventions while engaging with patients cultivated empathy and effective communication skills that I need in my future career. This experience highlighted the importance of resilience and resourcefulness in delivering high-quality healthcare within settings with limited resources. Furthermore, witnessing the public health challenges faced by the Gaza Strip, such as limited access to healthcare and political instability, deepened my understanding of the intersection between healthcare and public health in conflict-affected regions. This practicum enhanced my clinical proficiency and fueled my commitment to addressing health disparities and promoting equitable access to healthcare for marginalized populations.
