Presenter: Christopher Oh, Finance, Global Public Health Scholars

For my practicum I worked at a dental practice in La Plata, Maryland. I worked under Dr. Lee where I helped prepare rooms for patients. I sterilized equipment used for cleanings and cleaned the chair that the patients sit in. I learned basic tools used in cleanings, as well as more advanced procedures such a root canals. I was able to get a little bit of my own experience in the dental setting which is good for my future career aspirations. The public health connection was in the fact that I learned how dental care can affect people. Those with poor dental health often had similar roots such as poor flossing/brushing habits or poor dietary choices. Having healthy teeth and gums can often help prevent dental problems in the future which is why it is important to maintain good dental health.
