For my practicum I worked as a pharmacy technician at a CVS pharmacy in Montgomery County. As a pharmacy technician my tasks were dependent on the station I was working at. In the pharmacy there are four possible stations I could be placed at. Drop off, production, pick-up and drive thru. At drop-off customers came to drop off their prescriptions, deal with insurance issues and find discounts for prescriptions that were too expensive and insurance did not cover. At production was where the prescriptions were filled and bagged. The pick-up and drive thru areas were essentially the same. The difference being with pick-up customers came inside the building and with drive thru they came around the building to purchase their medications. Each station also had a little side job that came with it. From this experience I learned that in the pharmacy we are working towards battling the third sustainable development goal, good health and well being. We're doing this by providing medication to the sick. We're also providing vaccinations and encouraging the community to get vaccinated. Taking preventative measures in order to fend off diseases. During my time in the pharmacy it became aware to me that a lot of Americans are not in good health. One of the things public health works towards is bettering the health of individuals in society. By being a pharmacy technician we’re helping that goal by assisting people in receiving their prescriptions to help with their health issues.
