For my practicum project, I worked as a research assistant at the Affective and Translational Neuroscience Lab at the University of Maryland. In the lab, I primarily aided in developing and conducting a sub-study of another study examining the neurological basis of paranoia in schizophrenia and psychosis patients. Specifically, we collected continuous emotional ratings of three films and then compared those ratings to the fmri data collected from the study of schizophrenia and psychosis patients. From our research, we aim to further understand the underlying neurocircuitry of anxiety and fear. This data will aid in the development of effective treatments for patients with schizophrenia and psychosis disorders. Through my research, I have learned more about the current gaps in the literature and about the process of conducting research.
