For my practicum project, I worked as a physical therapist aide at a private outpatient physical therapy practice in Connecticut called PT+ Physical Therapy. I was able to observe and assist physical therapists and also work at the front desk. During my time there, I have found that a lot of individuals who go to physical therapy haven’t had a severe injury or were post-operative. Most of the patients were older adults who were experiencing pain and mobility issues. This is important because people are living longer and are experiencing pain as they age. PT+ Physical Therapy is helping this issue by providing hands-on treatment and prescribing exercises for individuals who are experiencing pain, want to avoid injury and improve their mobility. Having the opportunity to work at a physical therapy practice was very important and special to me because I one day hope to become a physical therapist. It was very interesting to learn more about what the job entails and it helped me imagine myself in this profession.
