For my practicum, I worked at Washington Brain and Spine Institute (WBSI) as a physical therapist technician. My responsibilities included assisting the head physical therapist during each treatment plan, guiding patients on exercise routines and the proper techniques, and maintaining cleanliness with equipment and the clinic. Throughout the project, I learned the importance of good patient-care and how effective communication works towards facilitating recovery for their musculoskeletal disorders. Also, I gained insights on how physical therapy and public health intersect with preventive measures and early intervention strategies with rehabilitation services to improve the community’s health and well-being. Working as a PT technician highlighted the role of rehabilitation in promoting overall health with every patient through physical activity and our collaborative efforts across healthcare to address the public health challenge of chronic pain.
