I worked at a physical therapy office in Bowie Maryland. Here, I worked as a physical therapy tech assisting the physical therapist by explaining exercises, applying heat, applying ice packs, and providing electrical stimulation. While working here I have learned a lot. I have learned many new exercises, many with crazy names. I have learned the importance of flexibility and empathy while being in the healthcare setting as not everyone's situation is similar and accommodating individuals specific needs relating to their injury is crucial to their healing. The public health connection is that many people come from different backgrounds and no one's injury/healing is the same. I have come across individuals who are deaf, who have balance issues, who cannot walk, who have cultural/social/ethnic beliefs that may affect their care, etc...As a PT tech, I have had to learn to accommodate the specific needs of each patient so each individual receives the care they need for their specific injury and healing process.
