For my practicum, I worked as a research assistant in the Public Health Aerobiology Lab (PHAB) at the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland. I was a part of the WhereFlu study which focuses on the transmissions of flu around campus. In the lab, I was in the recruitment group where I engaged with sick patients to try and collect samples [saliva and nasal swabs] for our study. From this experience, I learned that recruitment is very challenging, especially with sick patients. I joined this facility as I am interested in research as a future career, and getting research experience is very important to me.
