For my practicum project, I completed a service project as a Local Project Leader with Public Health Beyond Borders. In this role, I led project meetings once a week and outside of these meetings, I reached out to schools and communicated with community partners in hopes of having them collaborate with our organization. For example, my co-leader and I reached out to multiple schools that our organization had partnered with in the past to set up a possible time to come in and present workshops to students. Before I was a project leader for this team, our team went to local schools and community centers to present these workshops to educate students on various public health topics such as Healthy Relationships, Stress Management, and Treating Each Other With Respect. Once I started my position as a project leader, my co-project leader and I wanted to continue this practice because we thought it was a great way to educate students in our community. While reaching out to schools, we ran into the issue of not hearing back from many places. This taught us to be resilient in reaching out to schools as well as to broaden our community outreach for the future. During the Fall 2024 semester, we decided to contact departments in the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland to see if they had any connections we could partner with in the future. For the Spring 2025 semester, we utilized these connections to plan more events for our team.
