For my practicum project, I worked as a research assistant with a post-doctorate student with his grant proposal where we researched the ways that micro-geographic profiles of social and structural determinants of health affect different types of communities. We have found that these profiles do a lot in determining the health outcomes and the type of health available for certain demographics of people. This is important because understanding these profiles will allow us to redistribute health in a way that allows different demographics of people to have better access to health. As a Immigrant, I am grateful to have lived in a area that was majority white. Then seeing areas with more minority races and the health access is significantly less is direct evidence of the research we are conducting.
