For my practicum project, I completed an internship at Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood works to ensure the continuous improvement in sexual health and reproductive health through multiple channels. Often places who experience high poverty tend to have higher rates of teenage pregnancy, and experience higher rates of relationship violence. My role within the organization was too specifically go into lower income school in the Baltimore Area, and provide comprehensive sexual education through multiple channels and mediums. This included holding office hours where students could come privately to discuss their specific situation, and receive advice and ways that Planned Parenthood could help. This also included teaching about different methods of birth control, and how anatomy works. When speaking to these students it was important to relate and understand in order to dispel certain falsities in information. Before I was able to due this I went through a weeks worth of training from planned parenthood to address my own knowledge and ensure that I was able to give the most factual and accurate information. During the entirety of my internship it provided me the opportunity to expand upon the information I have learned in Global Health Scholars Program, and allowed me to have a public health impact not far from home.
