A Wider Circle: Community Based Aid

Presenter: Jenny Lac, Public Health Science, Global Public Health Scholars

For the past semester, I was able to work with A Wider Circle, a non-profit organization that focuses on providing basic services and necessities to those in poverty in the local community. Their primary goals are to support the revitalization of homes and communities while developing greater community awareness and engagement. By making change at the local level, we can take that first step towards improving public health. Providing basic necessities allows people to focus more concerns and resources on their health allowing greater improvement. During my time volunteering, I worked on organizing donations, keeping track of supplies, and helping those in need receive what they needed. The opportunity gave me a sense of how easy it is to take the time out of your day to help and how big of an impact that allows can make. I also developed a greater appreciation and understanding of the passion local organizations can have for helping others.
