Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Lab Research Assistant

Presenter: Sarah Nam, Criminology & Criminal Justice and Linguistics, Global Public Health Scholars

For my practicum, I am working at the University of Maryland Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Lab as an undergraduate research assistant. This lab is dedicated to research on the social impacts of COVID-19 particularly among Asian Americans.I helped with participant recruitment and survey tracking for an Asian American study aiming to understand Asian American identity and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. I will continue to work here by transcribing interviews that are being conducted in the spring. This connects to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages. It is inspiring to hear from other Asian Americans about their experiences during the pandemic as a Korean American. Improving health literacy for children, understanding minority groups’ experiences with racial discrimination, and identifying cultural resilience are interests I would like to explore further.
