Virtual learning definitely comes with it’s challenges, so an online tutoring service that provides these kids with the attention needed sounds very much needed. The poster is very visually pleasing and the graphics are cute. Were there any challenges with tutoring online that may be facilitated by the virtual platform? How busy were you with your work with the tutoring responsibilities?

Hi Emily, thank you for your comment. Yes, the virtual platform definitely brought its challenges. Notably, keeping students engaged online and technical or connectivity issues during tutoring sessions. Some students would not be able to hear us at times due to connectivity issues, the experience emphasized the importance of quality internet access for all students. Initially, the tutoring efforts took a lot of time and work but once we got through matching tutors, building a schedule, and running background checks the work was easier. We were able to build a manageable routine and time commitment for ourselves and the other tutors.

Hi Ela! I also did a lot of virtual tutoring during the pandemic, so I can definitely attest to the challenges that you mentioned on your poster! That being said, it's amazing that you were able to commit to this, as education is an aspect that has been set back this past year. Were you able to make resources equitable and account for the students that didn't have access to technology?

Hi Archie, glad to hear that! We were lucky to be working with a school system committed to providing technology for its students this year, so all students were able to check out Chromebooks from the county school system. We tried to accommodate and work with families as much as possible so for some students, this meant providing extra online resources and for others, this meant printable activities. Still, the importance of equitable internet access was reinforced to us as many families frequently faced connectivity issues, we were able to mitigate some of those issues by scheduling tutoring for children in one household at different times
