DC Central Kitchen and Covid-19 Implications

My practicum project involves working with the DC Central Kitchen in order to help the people who are less fortunate and are in need of meals. While this group does help feed the less fortunate, they also try to help these groups of people by trying to keep them self-sustaining, so that they do not need this Kitchen to constantly help them. They are trying to break this cycle of poverty and help those people get on their feet and stay on their feet. I plan on helping prepare food for the kitchen, while also learning how we can help people break the cycle of poverty. Can you talk about the choice of images you put on your poster and why they were selected? How does this practicum experience inform your global health goals?

Hi Mathew!

It's awesome to see that you were able to make a difference in the community while also learning valuable information on how to end the cycle of poverty. I was wondering if you know how/if this program is still running during the Covid-19 pandemic? What changes has the program had to make to adjust to the new circumstances?

This was a really interesting poster and a very good thing to do for the community! What are some specific ways that you plan to use your computer science background to implement changes into food poverty? How do you think programs like this one can get scaled into being able to help other larger communities with similar problems?

Good job making the best of your poster, Matthew. What are one or two ways the kitchen might help encourage sustainability of food security for low-income individuals?
