Providing Care for Autistic Children and Adults: Working for CARAFAP

Presenter: Jaimie Chang, Neuroscience, Global Public Health Scholars

My practicum project consisted of caring for clients with intellectual disabilities, usually autism. They would be assisted throughout the day’s session, as well as be taught and reinforced skills that would help them become more independent later in life without the need for much care from outside sources. The care given was always based on a six month care plan described by the supervisor and their parents or guardians. In addition, I was also required to write daily reports about the sessions, detailing what we did throughout the day. Clients could range from mildly disabled to severely disabled, but they were all treated equally.
