For my practicum project, I was a reading tutor for children in elementary school in Baltimore Public Schools virtually through the Reading Partners Connects program. I had 45 minute long sessions with students individually on Zoom following the reading lesson plan provided which focused on learning reading and comprehension. By giving them one on one assistance, I hope to help them feel more comfortable with their course material and encourage them to have positive attitudes towards learning. Receiving educational assistance can help promote more inclusive and quality education which could have an impact on future health outcomes. I’ve learned how virtual learning can benefit these programs by allowing these sessions to happen during school which is convenient for those who can’t stay after school and make learning more challenging for students to stay focused.
