For my practicum project, I volunteered at a food bank called Nourish Now in Rockville, MD. Usually, this food bank allows individuals to come to their facilities to pick up food and other necessities for themselves. However, due to COVID-19, Nourish Now has shifted into redistributing food and supplies to people, other food banks, etc. to minimize the risk of spreading the disease. As part of my job at Nourish Now, I do many things, including unloading food from trucks, moving the food into the warehouse, organizing the food onto shelves, fridges, and freezers, loading vehicles with food to be redistributed, making boxes with a variety of foods to be sent to families in the area, and more.
This is such an awesome practicum project! Will you work with Nourish Now or an organization like it again?
How do you let people know about your service other than word of mouth? Especially, how do you inform those that don’t have access to technology?
Did Nourish Now volunteers/workers notice an increase in the amount of people coming in looking for care packages due to the Covid-19 pandemic?
I've had a similar experience volunteering at a food bank! Do you know where the items at Nourish Now came from? Was there enough food for all of the individuals in need?
