From June to August 2021, I was an intern for the Dashboard for Agricultural Water Use and Nutrient Management (DAWN) Project. DAWN is a research-based organization that helps farmers in the Corn Belt (Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska) navigate the complexities of agriculture in times of a changing climate. They strive to generate reliable climate forecasts that help stakeholders optimize crop productivity while minimizing environmental impacts, prioritizing sustainability which pertains to three of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I worked to assess stakeholder needs through document analysis and interviews while also having the opportunity to manage and grow DAWN’s social media presence. My internship experience was blended; I collaborated virtually with team members around the nation and globe through Basecamp and with local mentors and peers in-person at UMD’s Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC).
